Do you unplug? Being in real estate often means you are on call, online 24/7/365, so how can you unplug and is it necessary?
Being available all the time becomes a habit and we often fear we will miss something important if we are not always available in this “now” society. It is important to set some availability/online rules for yourself. It is not only a healthy thing to do, but you will find you work better if you give yourself some time away.
Create some daily rules such as no phone or internet time prior to 8 am or after 7 pm. Let your clients know you are available during those certain hours and most of them will respect your decision.
Pick one day a week where you step away from the business. What day is usually slow for you? Take that day off, or at least half of the day every week. You will be amazed how much better you feel after spending a half day or day away from technology.
It is not easy with clients needing their realtor all the time, but you have to remember to make yourself a priority. Especially during slow times like the winter months, give yourself a bigger break and unplug a bit more than usual. Both my businesses are all about an online presence but I still unplug for the most part one day a week and it is so relaxing. Not only your devices will get a chance to recharge, but you will too. Give it a try!
